2016 Camaro 50th Anniversary

2016 Camaro 50th Anniversary

The Chevrolet Camaro debuted in 1967. And 50 years later, it was still in production, albeit modified from its original form. To celebrate this milestone anniversary, Chevrolet announced the production of a special-edition anniversary Camaro for 2017.

It was advertised to have several exterior and interior elements making their debut here or otherwise getting special treatment not usually reserved for Chevrolet vehicles.

A new, specific anniversary logo was also designed for the occasion and implemented for the vehicles so it could be seen in several places. There's an average price of $50K for the model, depending on how equipped it is.

This model also had a few practical applications as well, though those were not the intent for the anniversary celebration. It has several useful features, though a few of its features could be considered detrimental.

Read on to find out more special facts about the special edition anniversary Chevrolet Camaro made in 2017.

Exterior and Interior Design Were Unique

via GM Authority

For the Camaro's 50th Anniversary, Chevrolet decided to make the interior and exterior designs for the anniversary editions of these vehicles unique and never before seen. The exterior would have a Nightfall Gray Metallic paint on its chassis with 20-inch wheels and wheel center caps on the tires.

Stripes would also be prominently featured and the grille sported satin chrome accents. Orange brake calipers were also featured as an option. The interior was no less luxurious or special, as the seats were black leather and had suede inserts. As an accent piece, orange accent stitching would adorn these seats.

This generation differs from the 2016 models in several ways regarding specs. Power was increased while weight was decreased. For the record, the 2016 models had V8 engines that could put out 455 horsepower and go up to 60 MPH in only four seconds.

Many areas inside and outside the car sported a uniquely-designed anniversary logo. It was all part of the branding and marketing that would make these models distinct and distinguish them from previous or future generations.

Several places in the car had this logo, including on the seatbacks, steering wheel, backlit doorsill plates, instrument panel, passenger front wheel, around the bowtie on the wheels, and very close to the taillights. It would be difficult to sit in the car without looking in any direction and not seeing the specially-designed anniversary logo.

Chevy also declared that, unlike other models, no cap will be instituted on how many units of the anniversary Camaros can be built.

Other Features Were More Practical

via GM Authority

While a lot of the advertising and marketing was done to make this model distinct, the anniversary vehicles also had some practical applications as well. Although it was a decorative car for anniversary purposes, other features were designed with practicality in mind.

The bigger, thicker tires were good for handling road conditions and inclement weather, and they also sport better traction. Its engine was more powerful, being a 6.2-liter, eight-speed automatic engine capable of producing 455 horsepower. Similar to its immediate predecessor, the anniversary Camaro goes up to 60 MPH in only 4.1 seconds.

Further, its well-developed suspension and solid steering make for a smoother, more refined ride, as drivers find it easy to determine where the tires are going. Drivers also note that the interior was very airtight with temperature and the top on the convertible models would never show any air leaks.

It Starts At $50K

via CarPro USA

The starting price as equipped is $52,685, but the base price without it being equipped drops to $49,795.

It also only gets 17 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway, so it doesn't have the best fuel economy. It weighs nearly 4,000 pounds (two tons) and has a fuel tank that can hold 19 gallons.

It's 188.3 inches long, 74.7 inches wide, and 53.1 inches tall. The windows are also 11 inches tall, so between those and the sloped windshield, visibility isn't always the best either.

Finally, as mentioned before, the engine is a 6.2-liter, eight-speed automatic putting out 455 horsepower and 455 ft-lb of torque. It would be considered a muscle car capable of competing with Chevy's other muscle cars.
